Stop making excuses! This is not one of those easier said than done things. It is much easier to do a thing than it is to make an excuse.
I am quite sure we have all heard of the saying, “Excuses are like buttholes, everyone has them, yet no one wants to hear them.” So, stop making excuses, it’s that simple.
When I was much younger, I made excuses for as many things as I could. I was constantly trying to think of great excuses, rather than just taking life by the horns and dealing with the outcome of my actions.
As I got a little bit older and wiser I started to see that excuses were not getting me where I wanted to go and it was stunting my intellectual growth. When a person makes excuses, they are shutting themselves off to potentially life-changing events. Stop making excuses.
There can be any number of reasons why people make excuses: laziness, complacency, selfishness, lack of accountability, unreliability, and the list could go on and on. Notice all the reasons are not reasons to be proud of? Stop making excuses, start taking responsibility for your actions if you want to get better results.
I readily admit that I had to become extremely disciplined and still must catch myself on occasion when I feel an excuse starting to slip out of my mouth. As soon as I realize what is about to happen, I slow down and assess the situation and take ownership and accountability for my part. Excuses are a weak position to be coming from and makes a person seem like they had no control.
Successful people do not make excuses, we take decisive action, and we continue to learn and improve as we go. Instead of making excuses, try to create a better process for taking decisive action and implementing systems that will help you to accomplish more and achieve better results. Stop making excuses though.
This post is as much a reminder to me as it is a lecture to others about the harmful effects excuses can have on one’s life. Excuses are like a cancer, killing your opportunity to do more in life. If you wonder why people don’t trust in you and give you more opportunities to make something of yourself, ask yourself if maybe you made one to many excuses causing them to realize they could not rely on you to get things done. Stop making excuses.
If you want more out of life and you want to live a life that is bursting with opportunities, then stop making excuses and start taking more decisive action today and every day from here on out.
