Maybe, this should not be called find your passion, but rather know your passion. The way I see it, we all know our truth and our passions to some extent. For me for example, I absolutely love everything about fashion. I mean honestly there are probably some things I don’t care for related to the subject of fashion, but overall, yes, it is my biggest passion.
All though this may somewhat alienate or turn some people off, I feel like it is important to clarify where I am coming from and give a little history into why I love fashion so much.
So first and foremost, I am a heterosexual male that is only interested in females for intimate relationships. With that being said I would also classify myself as being something of a metrosexual as far as my fashion and grooming are concerned. What was it that lead to my love of fashion though is a bit of a curious thing.
First off, I honestly grew up quite poor. As I stated in other posts, I was raised by a single mother and so my clothing options were the best of the best that we could get from a thrift store or maybe a church donation center that gave away clothing. Since I had very limited options and did not get a whole lot of brand-new stuff, I think these things really brought to me great creativity.
For instance, whenever a nice pair of shoes that I had got dirty, like say my favorite pair of NIKE’s I would do one of two things. One was I would use something like 409 or saddle soap to clean the leather and make them look a little fresher. The other option that I chose more often then not, was to grab some markers and start adding cool new colors to my shoes which made me feel like I had a fresh new pair of shoes. Kind of silly I know, but I would like to remind you that I was just a kid in elementary school and while I did not fully understand that we were much poorer than most of the kids in my school, I felt like I was definitely more creative and way more resourceful.
The older I get the more I realize that the reason I am so eager to dress well is because I understand a few things a lot better. One is something I read in an article about working out and actually changing into workout clothes, there is a mindset shift that occurs, and it helps you work out better mentally. So I use this not only in my everyday life, but I use it in my business life as well. I dress and I buy the clothes that I know are going to give me the feelings and the results that I want in any given situation.
An example of this is when I have to take a test, I absolutely feel like it is necessary when the situation is approved, I choose to wear some sort of lounge wear. I know at first thought this might sound lazy, but what it is for me and what it signals for my brain is that I am absolutely comfortable and confident that I am going to pass the test with no worries. Using that one little trick has definitely given me a mental edge in many tests that I have taken and passed successfully. I think this began in college, maybe sometime later in High school. although they really frowned upon wear pajama pants to school when I was attending.
Second is, I often dress to impress especially when the opportunity calls for it. Job interviews, company functions, and things like that require a fine-tuned acumen to style. A person really needs to have an idea of what they are walking into so they do not overdress, but also so they do not underdress. Both can be quite devastating to how you are viewed from that point on, first impressions often are the only impression people ever get of you so always be mindful of this.
Moving on to leisure wear and just how I dress on a regular basis. Personally, I grew up in a seemingly highly wealthy area and even though I was from a poor household I still saw and noticed how the richer kids dressed and so this affected me in a big way. My overall style I would say is quite eclectic, but still leans towards a fairly basic preppy type of person. There is also still a little bit of the old stoner in me that affects my style as well, but mostly preppy.
As I stated in a previous post I wear a lot of North Face, Patagonia, Southern Tide, Southern Marsh, Vineyard Vines, Vuori, American Eagle, Hollister, and similar other brands. Those were the T-shirts and shirts category. Shoes, I wear OnCloud, Hoka, UGG, New Balance, Olukai, Cole Haan, Vans and I think I still have a pair of just some Classic NIKE’s the OG’s of must have shoe’s.
. As you can see I kind of went off on a bit of a tangent because I love fashion, but this is supposed to be about you finding your passion. So how do you do it? Well the truth is that anything that you can go on and on about at anytime is a good place to start. Your passion is going to be that thing that you can get lost in and lose all track of time. It’s also going to be that one thing that you will never give up on no matter what happens no matter if people think it is silly or not worthwhile, but if it is for you then this is something you might be truly passionate about.
. Another way to look at it is, what is that thing or maybe it is several things, but that thing that just elicits pure and raw emotion every time you think about it or get to discuss it. Now these are generally true passions those things that cause so much excitement and joy that your eyes start to water up and you just feel so elated. One of my other passions other than fashion is art, but mostly in the discipline of painting. Obviously I also like to write or create content such as these blog posts.
These are just a few things that could help you find your passion and bring great joy to you. If you are one of the lucky ones, you might even find a way to get paid for doing the things you love and are passionate about. For me it’s a little bit of both. I hang on to my day job while also doing things I am more passionate about than my job. Do what works for you, but definitely find your passion and let it propel you into your life’s calling or great work.
As always, be fruitful and plant some seeds that may help others bear fruit as well.
